Elas refletem a a\u00e7\u00e3o combinada das for\u00e7as de atra\u00e7\u00e3o gravitacional entre a Terra, a Lua e o Sol, e dos movimentos rotacionais da Terra, que geram for\u00e7as centr\u00edfugas: no ponto da Terra mais perto da Lua, a \u00e1gua se eleva por causa da for\u00e7a gravitacional; enquanto no lado oposto, mais afastado, ela tamb\u00e9m se eleva, mas agora devido \u00e0 for\u00e7a centr\u00edfuga.
