O resultado dessas atividades \u00e9 evidenciado na distin\u00e7\u00e3o das margens continentais em dois tipos: Atl\u00e2ntico (ou passiva, com grande ac\u00famulo de sedimentos); e Pac\u00edfico (ou ativa, com ocorr\u00eancia de terremotos e vulc\u00f5es). A morfologia das margens continentais apresenta prov\u00edncias fisiogr\u00e1ficas, dentre as quais encontra-se a Plataforma Continental.<br \/>\nA Plataforma Continental \u00e9 uma faixa, com gradientes suaves, inferiores a 1:1000, que circunda o continente. Estende-se desde a linha da praia at\u00e9 uma regi\u00e3o na qual h\u00e1 um aumento pronunciado da declividade, denominada quebra da plataforma continental. A depender da localidade, a profundidade e a largura apresentam varia\u00e7\u00f5es consider\u00e1veis, sendo a profundidade m\u00e9dia de 130m, e a largura m\u00e9dia de 75km. <br \/>\nO ambiente das plataformas \u00e9 predominantemente sedimentar, com a presen\u00e7a de sedimentos terr\u00edgenos, biog\u00eanicos, vulc\u00e2nog\u00eanicos, autig\u00eanicos e residuais. Esse fundo sofre a a\u00e7\u00e3o continental e marinha, como: a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o estratigr\u00e1fica, o aporte de sedimentos do continente e a atividade biol\u00f3gica. Outra condicionante \u00e9 a hidrodin\u00e2mica dos oceanos, que, atrav\u00e9s da a\u00e7\u00e3o das mar\u00e9s; das ondas de tempestade; e das correntes for\u00e7adas pelo vento, \u00e9 capaz de atuar nas plataformas continentais em diferentes escalas, podendo mobilizar intensamente o fundo marinho ou, praticamente, n\u00e3o provocar transporte de sedimentos.<br \/>\nA depender da intera\u00e7\u00e3o entre o agente mobilizador dos sedimentos e a granulometria, observa-se a predomin\u00e2ncia de um determinado tipo de fundo, e essas caracter\u00edsticas sedimentares relacionam-se intimamente com a FAUNA, determinando a instala\u00e7\u00e3o de esp\u00e9cies adaptadas morfol\u00f3gica e fisiologicamente.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><br \/>\nDivis\u00e3o da Plataforma:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>A plataforma continental pode ser subdividia, com base na profundidade e no n\u00edvel energ\u00e9tico, em dom\u00ednios din\u00e2micos, que variam, entre as plataformas e, tamb\u00e9m, no tempo. Os principais, da terra em dire\u00e7\u00e3o ao oceano, incluem: a plataforma interna; a plataforma m\u00e9dia; a plataforma externa e a borda da plataforma. <br \/>\nEssa divis\u00e3o pode apresentar-se variada em cada plataforma, levando em considera\u00e7\u00e3o diferentes crit\u00e9rios, como a profundidade e largura.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify; FONT-FAMILY: \">\n<div style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify; FONT-FAMILY: \"><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Import\u00e2ncia e Impactos:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Embora representem apenas 7,5% dos oceanos, as plataformas possuem grande import\u00e2ncia cient\u00edfica, econ\u00f4mica e ambiental, podendo atuar na dire\u00e7\u00e3o de propaga\u00e7\u00e3o das ondas, constituir uma fonte de sedimentos para a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o das praias e abrigar uma rica biodiversidade. Essa zona din\u00e2mica sofre grande explora\u00e7\u00e3o de recursos, implicando em problemas no seu equil\u00edbrio ecol\u00f3gico.\u00a0 Destaca-se aqui, al\u00e9m dos problemas relacionados \u00e0 fauna (pesca, morte causada por contamina\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental), a explora\u00e7\u00e3o do petr\u00f3leo, uma atividade com grande risco de impactar o ambiente marinho. Assim, os estudos devem ser intensificados para conhecer e preservar melhor esse ambiente.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><div><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Curiosidade:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Plataforma Continental Jur\u00eddica X Plataforma Continental Geomorfol\u00f3gica<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify; FONT-FAMILY: \"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Segundo a Conven\u00e7\u00e3o das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas sobre o Direito do Mar (CNUDM), a Plataforma Continental Jur\u00eddica (PCJ) \u00e9:<br \/>\n\u201cA plataforma continental de um Estado costeiro compreende o leito e o subsolo das \u00e1reas submarinas que se estendem al\u00e9m do seu mar territorial, em toda a extens\u00e3o do prolongamento natural do seu territ\u00f3rio terrestre, at\u00e9 ao bordo exterior da margem continental, ou at\u00e9 uma dist\u00e2ncia de 200 milhas mar\u00edtimas das linhas de base a partir das quais se mede a largura do mar territorial, nos casos em que o bordo exterior da margem continental n\u00e3o atinja essa dist\u00e2ncia.\u201d (CNUDM, art. 76, par. 1).<br \/>\nJ\u00e1 a Plataforma Continental Geomorfol\u00f3gica (PCG) \u00e9 entendida como a \u00e1rea plana, com relevo suave e gradiente inferior a 1:1000, que se estende da linha da praia \u00e0 quebra da plataforma, onde se inicia o talude. <br \/>\nAssim, nota-se que a Plataforma Continental Jur\u00eddica pode englobar mais do que as fei\u00e7\u00f5es fisiogr\u00e1ficas conhecidas como plataforma, podendo avan\u00e7ar al\u00e9m do talude.
