Esses indiv\u00edduos conseguiram desenvolver caracter\u00edsticas estruturais e fisiol\u00f3gicas bastante diversas, o que os ajuda a ocupar praticamente todos os ambientes da Terra, sendo o maior filo do Reino Animal.<br \/>\nA caracter\u00edstica distingu\u00edvel dos artr\u00f3podes \u00e9 a presen\u00e7a de um <strong>exoesqueleto quitinoso<\/strong> ou <strong>cut\u00edcula<\/strong>, que \u00e9 secretado pela epiderme subjacente e protege sem prejudicar a mobilidade.\u00a0 <br \/>\nEsse esqueleto \u00e9 constitu\u00eddo de uma camada mais interna e grossa, a <strong>procut\u00edcula<\/strong>, e uma camada mais externa e fina, a <strong>epicut\u00edcula<\/strong>.
